Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check my eligibility for getting married in the Chapel?
Lancing College alumni and staff are automatically eligible. If you’re not connected to the College, you can still marry in the Chapel by forming a relationship with the Chapel community, such as becoming a Friend of Lancing Chapel. Our Events Team can guide you through the process.
Can I book just the wedding service at Lancing Chapel?
Yes. A limited number of Chapel‑only wedding dates are available each year, based on the College calendar. Contact us with your preferred month and year, and we’ll confirm availability.
How far in advance can we book our wedding date and how do we view available dates?
Wedding dates depend on the Chaplain’s availability and the school calendar. Share the month and year you’re considering, and our team will advise on available options.
Can I use a Registrar or a Celebrant in the Chapel?
No. All weddings in the Chapel must be conducted by the Chaplain or another Church of England priest invited by him.
Can we be granted a Special Licence if either my partner or I are divorced?
Unfortunately, Special Licences are not granted if one or both partners are divorced and a former spouse is still living.
If one of us is a foreign national, can we apply for a special licence?
Yes, it may be possible, although the process is more complex. Our Verger can provide guidance and next steps.
